PHOTO ESSAY: Paul Barnes Pop-Up Performance at Greenpoint

This weekend, more than 50 national and regional musicians will come together for the 20th Lincoln Calling festival on May 3 and 4. The inaugural Art of Sound (tAOS) kicked off Lincoln Calling week by providing a platform for visionary artists and exploring the possibilities of sound in combination with physical art.

On Wednesday, May 1, Lincoln Calling hosted their “immersive” experience with Paul Barnes, a pianist and professor at the UNL Glenn Korff School of Music. Barnes performed inside the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s sculpture, “Greenpoint,” by Richard Serra, outside of Burnett Hall on UNL’s campus at noon.

While part of Lincoln Calling’s tAOS, the event also aimed to honor Serra, who died on March 26. The pop-up performance aimed to envelope its audience with the ambiance that “Greenpoint” creates when combined with music, according to Lincoln Calling’s website.

The event was sponsored by The Pearle Francis Finigan Foundation and the Great Plains Piano Company.
